A popular Saskatoon diner, known for its 50’s-inspired interior, milkshakes and good vibes, is closing one of its locations for good - months after it was forced to temporarily close after a customer found a cockroach on a grilled cheese sandwich. “To our valued customers and friends. We are closing our 8th street location. Our last day of operation is August 28th,” read a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Customer Tori Redman found a cockroach on her sandwich in late February. Redman shared her experience on social media, with the post spreading quickly. Owner Jon Tyson apologized in a post online shortly after the incident, adding he and his staff had been working steadily to make sure the restaurant was clean and up to code. The 8th Street location has been open for 12 years. Tyson didn’t explicitly state the February incident is the reason for the permanent closure next month - but says social media comments played a role. “Thank you very much to our loyal customers for the past 12 years. Unfortunately, you can’t fight social media, as this post will prove.” Download the CTV News app to get breaking news alerts sent to your device Saskatoon-based musician Harreson James performed at the diner often over the past 12 years, and says he’s sad to see it go. “I will always have great memories of performing at Pink Cadillacs.Jon and his staff were so welcoming and were very supportive for the Saskatoon music scene,” James told CTV News. “It was not only a place I enjoyed playing music, it was also a family favourite with my kids. I’ll definitely miss walking into the 50’s vibe.” The Facebook post encourages those with gift cards to stop by before the planned Aug. 28 closure. “I want to thank my staff, past and present for helping build a unique retro family diner. We look forward to seeing you.” A second Pink Cadillac’s, located in Saskatoon’s Stonebridge neighborhood, will remain open.
