Residents across Saskatchewan are being asked to be wary of a text message scam currently circulating, claiming residents owe money on traffic tickets. The text message claims to be from a police officer and “informs” the recipient of the text they have a provincial court traffic violation and must appear in court. One scam text submitted to CTV News included a court date and threats of arrest, license suspension, vehicle seizure, in addition to asset forfeiture. The message includes a link to a fake “Courts of Saskatchewan” webpage, which offers residents a portal to pay their ticket. Both Regina and Saskatoon police, along with the Courts of Saskatchewan, warn legitimate government agencies will never ask residents to resolve legal matters through unsolicited text messages. “Do not click the link. Do not provide any personal or payment information,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement, adding if residents believe they have outstanding tickets, they should contact the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan.
