BC Ferries says the new Salish Raven is being placed into service early after a mechanical issue last week pulled another ferry out of service.
The Salish Raven will make its inaugural sailing this afternoon departing from Tsawwassen to the Southern Gulf Islands.
BC Ferries vice president of engineering Mark Wilson says crews are still struggling to determine the issue with the 53-year-old Queen of Nanaimo that remains out of service.
The Queen of Nanaimo is slated to be pulled permanently from service this fall with the installation of the Salish Raven, which is the second new ferry to be added to the fleet this summer.
