A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody as a major crimes unit investigates a woman's death on Salt Spring Island.
CTV News has learned that Heather Jones was found dead in a duplex on Maliview Drive, north of Ganges, on Wednesday.
RCMP said that the man taken into custody was known to the victim, and that foul play is suspected in the death. Family confirmed the man taken into custody is Martin Vandenberg, the son of Heather Jones.
Police have not publicly confirmed the identity of the deceased person or the man taken into custody.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit sent officers to the island sometime Wednesday.
VIIMCU was on scene throughout the day, and neighbours said they were asked to stay inside as police dealt with the incident.
An air ambulance could later be seen landing at a local hospital.
Saltspring RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroner's Service are also investigating the death.
