A driver has died after a two-vehicle crash west of Arnprior early Saturday, according to Ontario Provincial Police. OPP say officers responded to a collision between an SUV and a transport truck on Highway 17 near Calabogie Road just before 3:30 a.m. The driver and lone occupant of the SUV, a 49-year-old from the Golden Lake area, was pronounced dead at the scene, OPP Const. Erin Cranton told CTV News Ottawa. The driver of the transport truck was assessed by paramedics with no reported injuries. Highway 17 was closed in both directions between Campbell Drive and Anderson Road for nearly 12 hours. The Ministry of Transportation said the road had reopened shortly before 3:15 p.m. An investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage, and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact the Renfrew OPP. Eastbound Hwy. 417 closed near Russell OPP officers also responded to a transport truck fire on Highway 417 in Russell, east of Ottawa, just before 5 a.m. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the single-vehicle collision, but the eastbound lanes of the highway remain closed between Limoges Road and St. Guillaume Road. Fire crews remain at the scene. The highway had reopened by 4:25 p.m.
