Temporary closures are now in place in Cape Breton Highlands National Park after a visitor was bitten by a coyote. According to Parks Canada, the incident happened at MacIntosh Brook on Thursday evening. As a precaution while staff “assess the situation,” some areas of the park are temporarily closed, including: Parks Canada said staff are actively monitoring the affected area. It asks visitors to respect all closures and signage. “Visitors and local community residents are reminded to use caution around wildlife and give animals plenty of space,” said a Facebook post from Cape Breton Highlands National Park. “Never feed wildlife.” Parks Canada said if someone encounters a coyote, they should not run. They should make themselves appear large, make noise and slowly back away. Earlier this week, there were coyote sightings near the Fortress of Louisbourg in Cape Breton. Signs warning about aggressive coyote behaviour were posted along the Old Town Trail.
