Rogers customers in parts of Waterloo and St. Jacobs experienced service disruptions Saturday following what the company listed as a fibre cut caused by vandalism. The outage affected television, internet and home phone services, according to Rogers’ outage information. All Rogers services were restored before 4 p.m. The affected area included parts of north Waterloo and the St. Jacobs area. “Like other providers, we’re seeing a troubling rise in vandalism to our network infrastructure across the country, causing service interruptions and affecting Canadians who rely on our networks to stay connected,” an email statement from Rogers read. “Beyond being a significant inconvenience for our customers and businesses, these acts can have a serious impact on public safety. Just before midnight, vandals intentionally cut our fibre line, causing a service interruption to internet, TV and home phone for some customers in parts of North Waterloo and parts of St. Jacobs. We are working with local police, and our crews worked around the clock to repair the damage and restore services. Some customers started coming back online around 10a.m. and service was fully restored by mid-afternoon.” CTV News also contacted Waterloo Regional Police for information about any related investigation.
