Sleeping Sault driver charged with impaired

A 52-year-old man in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with impaired and dangerous driving following an incident May 3 in the city.

Police responded to a 911 call around 12:40 a.m. about a person fast asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on Edison Avenue.

“Officers were dispatched to the scene,” police said in a news release May 6.

“Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. They were arrested.”

He was taken to police headquarters, where he failed multiple breath tests.

Charges include impaired driving offences and dangerous driving.

The accused was released on an appearance notice.
