Police in Sault Ste. Marie have charged a 33-year-old man with robbery following an incident in April. “On April 21, officers began investigating a robbery at a business in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard. It revealed the accused aimed a can of bear mace at an employee who attempted to stop them from stealing from the business,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Friday. “The accused then fled the business with the stolen property. No physical injuries were reported.” On June 17, officers with the service’s Division 2 Unit located and arrested the accused, charging him with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31.
