South Simcoe Police says four new special constables have joined their team and will be playing a specific role. The police service says the constables were sworn in on Sunday. Police shared photos of the constables but did not share names. The four new members of the police service will be part of South Simcoe Police’s court services unit. Their roles, the police service says, will include being responsible for the security and transportation of persons in custody, facilitating court appearances and supporting bail hearings and trials. Other duties will include serving court-related documents and managing the transfer of charges. Similarly, court officers are also responsible for the sharing of evidence disclosure packages, which include police reports, witness statements and more between police and the court system. Court officers will additionally respond to follow-up requests from the Crown Attorney’s office as requested.
