On its first full day of operation, an overdose prevention site in Victoria proved to be popular.

About two dozen people turned up to the converted shipping container at Our Place Society to be monitored as they used their drugs.

Spokesman Grant McKenzie says while no one has overdosed at the site so far – lives are still being saved.

More than 755 people have died of illicit drug overdose deaths in B.C. this year, and the deadly opioid fentanyl has been linked to about 60 per cent of the deaths.
