Investigators say they have uncovered new evidence at a rural Saanich property in the search for Dana McKellar, a Victoria man who went missing in 2014.
But Victoria Police won’t confirm exactly what that evidence is – just that it was found on the weekend – saying that more searching and excavating needs to be done.
Some 90 officers working with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit searched the Goward Road property through the weekend and into Monday as temperatures pushed 30 degrees.
They recovered a stolen piece of excavation equipment last week but have not confirmed whether it is connected to the 51-year-old man’s disappearance.
McKellar was last seen in August and reported missing in September. After he went missing, investigators determined that he had previously been assaulted in July.
Police say businesses which operate on the property are still open while the search continues.
Anyone with information about McKellar’s disappearance is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
