Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a teen accused of going on a random shooting spree with a pellet gun along a popular hiking trail.

It started sometime Wednesday afternoon, when the 14-year-old male was skateboarding on the E&N Trail next to Highway 19A.

The teen allegedly fired a pellet that struck a car heading southbound on the highway.

The driver pulled over and reported the incident to RCMP.

A short time later, another car was shot at near Rock City Plaza, resulting in one of its window being shattered.

Mounties say the rampage continued to a Mercedes and BMW dealership on Kenworth Road, where a window was shot out.

Staff provided a clear description to police and chased the suspect to the area of Wellington Pub, finding the black, handgun-style BB gun along the way and handing it over to RCMP.

Mounties arrested the suspect, who they say is well-known to them, at the pub.

The teen faces multiple charges including three counts of mischief, weapons charges and possible additional charges relating to breach of conditions.

He was expected to appear at a bail hearing Wednesday night or go before a provincial court judge on Thursday.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

Police initially tweeted a car window had been shot out, but later confirmed that it was a window at the dealership that was shot.
