A man killed in a snowboarding accident at Mount Washington has been identified online as a young father from Campbell River.
A GoFundMe campaign says 27-year-old Stewart Elhorn died in the Jan. 22 accident, which is still being investigated by the BC Coroner's Service.
A coroner has not officially identified the victim in Monday's accident. Mount Washington said he was found unresponsive in a forested area in-bounds at the ski resort, but a cause of death has not been released.
The online fundraiser called Elhorn "a dedicated family man" who leaves behind a fiancé and four-year-old son "who was truly the apple of his eye."
Friends are hoping to raise $10,000 for Elhorn's family, saying he was an experienced logger and sole provider for the family.
The fatality came after Mount Washington was slammed with 110 centimetres in a 24-hour period over the weekend, forcing it to shut down on Sunday.
It's the second snowboarding fatality in the past decade at Mount Washington. A 15-year-old boy was found dead in a tree well in a snowboarding accident in 2015.
