The BC Coroner's Service is investigating after a man in his 20s was killed in a snowboarding accident at Mount Washington.
The man was found unresponsive in a treed area within the ski resort's boundaries Monday afternoon, Mount Washington confirmed in a press release.
A resort risk manager said the man had been snowboarding off-piste, or away from prepared ski runs, within the ski hill's boundary
"This is a very sad tragedy," said resort general manager Peter Gibson. "Everyone here at the resort sends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends. I would like to thank our dedicated patrol staff for their assistance."
It's unclear exactly what happened that resulted in the man's death.
The BC Coroner's Service said at this point, it won't be confirming or releasing the man's identity.
The fatality comes after the resort was slammed with 110 centimetres in a 24-hour period over the weekend, forcing it to shut down entirely on Sunday.
A coroner confirmed it's the second snowboarding fatality in the past decade at Mount Washington. A 15-year-old boy was found dead in a tree well in a snowboarding accident in 2015.
