One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 14 Friday afternoon.

The head-on collision happened in the 5900-block of Sooke Road around 4:30 p.m.

RCMP say a van was travelling westbound when it crossed the double solid line and hit an SUV.

A man driving a grey Dodge Caravan died on scene from his injuries, officials say.

Sooke firefighters had to cut the woman from her Jeep using hydraulic equipment.

She was taken to a local hospital and was later released.

The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP continue to investigate what led to the crash.

No charges are being considered at this time.

The crash shut down Sooke Road in both directions for several hours on Friday while police conducted their investigation.
