Police have made an arrest in a chilling incident where a man allegedly blocked the Galloping Goose trail Friday morning and then confronted a cyclist with a knife.
The cyclist was on the trail near Burnside Road at around 8:45 a.m. when she came across a log that looked like it was purposely placed across the path.
She dismounted her bike and tried to remove the log, and that’s when a man brandishing a knife suddenly leapt from the nearby bushes, according to police.
The cyclist, who was not injured, quickly fled the scene and called police.
Officers tracked down the man a short time later and took him into custody.
Police say they’re investigating whether the suspect was the same man who was reportedly throwing rocks at passing cyclists on the trail Friday morning.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
