Two South Bruce OPP officers have been cleared of wrongdoing in the injury of a man back in April. According to the Special Investigations Unit, a 38-year-old man was hurt when he went into the ditch while fleeing police in a field near Westford. On April 2, police were looking to arrest the man for an alleged carjacking and involvement in auto thefts near Stratford. He reportedly stole a pickup truck and was avoiding police when he crashed. He suffered multiple rib fractures and a broken back. Director Joseph Martino said the man fled in an effort to evade arrest and drove up to 110 km/h through the field. He said there was no evidence that there was a police pursuit and during the arrest, there’s no evidence suggesting additional force or strikes were used. The SIU said the man attributed his injuries to the crash on the embarkment.
