The sizzling of a deep-fried corn dog is a quintessential sound when attending a fair. For the last two years since West Coast Amusements took over the Queen City Exhibition, The Korean Corn Dog stand offers fairgoers a unique twist on the traditional wiener on a stick. “Everything here is 100 per cent halal. It’s made with beef. We put cheese here at the tip, hot dog at the bottom, we roll it in panko, and then we fry it,” said a worker at the stand. The favourite creation of Regina fairgoers at the unique corn dog stand, according to the workers, is something that packs a bit of heat. “The flaming Cheeto, by far. Everybody has been ordering that one. I’d say the spice level of that one is only a three out of 10. Yeah, not too spicy,” said the worker. Another twist on a typical beverage is thunder tea and lightning lemonade, with the thunder and lightning being a boost of energy so to speak. “So, we put caffeine in both of our lemonade and iced tea. Essentially the maximum you are allowed to serve, and you can get it flavoured. Seeing what combinations people make, it’s pretty interesting. I love seeing what people create with the flavors that we have,” said a fair worker at Thunder Tea. She would go onto tell CTV News that her personal favourite creation is lime mixed with watermelon. With the long weekend underway and no reprieve from the heat in sight, fairgoers may be lining up for some ice-cold refreshments all the way through the weekend when the Queen City Exhibition wraps. Whether it’s something newer like an Oreo encrusted Korean corn dog or a thunder iced tea with a couple shots of caffeine, or an old staple like a bag of mini donuts, there’s something for every appetite.
