One person has been taken into custody and a heavy police presence in downtown Goderich ended early Thursday following a barricade incident near Courthouse Square. Huron County OPP first advised the public Wednesday to avoid the area around Courthouse Square because of an ongoing investigation and directed motorists and pedestrians to use alternate routes. In an update issued at about 8:10 p.m., police said officers were responding to reports of a barricaded individual and that a significant police presence remained in place. Police said there was no threat to public safety during the incident. Shortly after midnight Thursday, police said the situation had been resolved. Officers said the police presence had ended and one individual was in custody. No additional details about the investigation or the individual taken into custody have been released.
