The Tofino whale-watching vessel has been towed to a secure location days after it flipped in the water sending five people to their deaths.
The Transportation Safety Board says the Leviathan II will be monitored by the RCMP and that a another team of TSB experts will plan some detailed testing of the vessel in the coming days.
The agency says the current investigation team has left Tofino after interviewing survivors and people who rescued passengers last Sunday.
Those who died were British nationals, and an Australian man remains missing.
The TSB says its next steps include verifying information about the vessel's stability, reviewing any modifications that were made and analyzing data from electronic equipment recovered from the ship.
Transport Canada documents show the vessel was lengthened and an upper deck was added in 1996, but that it passed a stability test after the changes.
