Golfers Shawn Brown and Trevor Fackrell will never forget their once-in-a-lifetime moment at the Galt Country Club in Cambridge, Ont. The two men were playing in a foursome on June 26 when they each hit a hole-in-one – on the same hole. “It was perfect 8-iron distance because it was slightly downwind and downhill,” explained Fackrell, who hit first. “I hit an 8-iron and flushed it, hit it pure and it landed, took one hop and went in the hole.” Fackrell, a former pro at the Burlington Country Club, said it was his sixth career hole-in-one. “We were excited. It was great, we had a little bit of excitement, but then when Shawn had exactly the same shot as me… our ball marks were nine inches apart and his did exactly the same thing,” he said. “It did a little spin and just rolled into the hole.” After the second hole-in-one, the entire course knew what had happened. “It went ballistic,” said Brown, a 30-year member at the Galt Country Club, adding, “There were some old guy celebrations.” It was Brown’s fifth-ever hole-in-one – but likely the most memorable. “It was pretty surreal, to be honest,” he said. “After Trevor makes it, to knock one in on top, that doesn’t happen. You would never expect it.” According to Fackrell and Brown, the odds of back-to-back shots is one-in-17 million. “It is more rare than winning the lottery,” explained Fackrell. “Lotto 6/49 is 13 million-to-1 odds.” The feat capped off a successful month for Brown, who also hit a hole-in-one – on the same hole – just two weeks prior. The only casualty of the day was spoiled retirement party. “I kind of rained on my wife’s parade a little bit because that was her last day at work,” Brown said. “She retired that Friday, so we were going to celebrate some dinner. I threw a little monkey wrench into the plans and jumped on her parade a little.”
