A café in Port Alberni has seen a troubling trend since it opened in July – the business has been a victim to two thefts in four months.
The most recent theft happened on Wednesday.
The owner of Full of Beans Play Café went to open the shop and noticed the sign above the door had been stolen.
The wooden sign had been hand-carved and donated by a member of the community.
“It was his way of supporting our business,” owner Rebecca Standley said.
This isn’t the first time someone has stolen from the café.
A day after the grand opening someone smashed in a window and stole baked goods and groceries.
“Unfortunately we had to stay closed that day, but we were able to re-open that following Tuesday,” Standley said.
The business owner added that at least this time there is a happy ending.
The owner of Pizza Factory in the Vancouver Island city saw their Facebook post about the sign and offered to help.
“He has donated to bake a pizza dinner for Jan and his family and Jan will make us a new sign,” Standley said.
While the two thefts have been disappointing, Standley said she appreciates all of the support.
“They call Port Alberni the city with a heart, so it’s nice to know that there are people in the town that live up to that name,” she said.
Standley asks that anyone with information on the stolen sign contact them.
