Four charges have been dropped against a Port Alberni man arrested in connection with a brutal sexual assault in Denver.
Colby Messer, 30, had four counts of sexual assault dismissed in court Monday while two counts of sexual assault remain, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
The charges came after an alleged sexual attack on a 27-year-old American woman in a Denver hotel room while Messer and several friends were on vacation last November.
Court documents allege Messer flew to Denver to go to a football game with three of his friends when they met the woman at a bar.
She said in a sworn affidavit that she doesn’t remember how she got to the hotel but remembered being naked in a hotel room and sexually assaulted with a lamp, remote control and telephone.
Messer was arrested in March when he returned to the United States.
He’s expected to enter a plea when he attends his arraignment Oct. 3 in Denver.
No one else has been charged in the case, and the DA says it continues to investigate.
