The mass move-out at tent city is almost complete.

The province says fewer than 10 people remain camped out on the lawn of the Victoria courthouse, as the relocation of tent city residents continues to stretch on past a Monday deadline.

More than 300 people have been housed since the controversial encampment sprang up under a legal loophole last fall, according to B.C.’s housing ministry.

That includes more than 100 people who have moved into the former Central Care Home over the last several weeks.

The few remaining campers are expected to be moved in by the end of the week, but the ministry didn’t say how it plans to deal with those who may dig in their stakes and refuse to leave.

Campers were handed a court-ordered Aug. 8 deadline to clear the site, but after some campers remained at the site, the province elected to try to maintain goodwill by not forcing them out.

It said more details regarding the transition would be provided as they become available, and that the government’s main concern is ensuring housing and supports are available to all campers.

After tent city is vacated, the responsibility of cleaning up the site will fall on the Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services.
