Now that Halloween is over, a farm sanctuary in Duncan is asking people to think twice before tossing their pumpkins in the garbage.
A Home for Hooves is accepting donations of pumpkins and other gourds to feed to its pigs, some of which were rescued earlier this year from abandonment.
The sanctuary's owner says pumpkins are a good food source that are rich in vitamins and minerals – and pigs just happen to love them.
"It's a treat for them. They love pumpkin, they'll eat it really quick," said Michelle Singleton. "Pigs love to eat so they'll pretty much eat everything, but especially pumpkins."
While area farmers have been donating leftover pumpkins, the sanctuary says it could always use more.
Pigs will even eat leftover jack-o-lanterns so long as they're free from mold, decay, ink, paint, toothpicks and candle wax, Singleton said.
Anyone who can donate is asked to get in touch with Home for Hooves through its Facebook page or website.
