We never called Edmonton “the city of sunny weather and nothing to do.” This weekend once again offers a multitude of activities that may or may not get rained on. It’s unclear – but mostly unlikely, if the forecast holds true. Here’s what’s happening: Edmonton Fringe Festival All things weird, musical, magical and comedic are back starting Thursday for the largest, longest-running festival of its kind in North America. The grassroots 11-day event will feature 209 indoor theatre shows across the city, Indigenous artists and stories local to Treaty 6, kids performances and roaming musicians. There’s no one way to fringe. Edmonton Mural Festival This not-for-profit event creates public murals and large-scale installations within the greater Edmonton area from Saturday until Sept. 15. Locations include the downtown core, Old Strathcona, 124 Street and the French Quarter. Take a walk. Look at art. Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival This event was moved from the North Saskatchewan River to the Leduc Boat Club on Telford Lake for Saturday and Sunday. Both days will include races, vendors, food trucks, music and a beverage garden. This year will also include paddlers from as far away as Calgary, Portland and Holland. The Grand Night Market The Grand Night Market takes over the Chrysalis Society’s parking lot on St. Albert trail to bring together more than 30 local makers, artists, music and food Friday evening. Proceeds support Chrysalis and its “Alberta Society for Citizens with Disabilities” programs. Servus Edmonton Marathon Nearly 10,000 people are already registered for Sunday’s 35th-annual Edmonton Marathon. Online registration is closed, but anyone who hates their knees and loves charity can walk up to register on race day for any of the events. You could also just watch. Edmonton Elks vs. Toronto Argonauts The Elks take on the Argonauts Saturday at 1 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. Tickets begin at $26. Edmonton Love and Unity Reggae Festival Taking place on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at William Hawrelak Park. General admission begins at $70. 1st-annual Food Truck Frenzy at Klondike Park It’s like the Avengers assembling, but for Edmonton’s favourite food trucks and without any Avengers. The likes of Black Sheep, Calle Mexico, Drift Food Truck and more will gather at the Edmonton Expo Centre Friday at 5 p.m.
