VICTORIA - The province says it will introduce more regulations for e-cigarettes, in an effort to prevent more youth from using them.
BC's Health Minister Terry Lake says this legislation will help shield children from possible dangers of e-cigarette vapours, as well as the normalization of smoking.
Changes will include requirements that retailers only sell e-cigarettes to adults over the age of 19, as well as changes to limit advertising displays in-store. They will also not be allowed to be sold in public buildings, used on public and private school grounds, or used in indoor public spaces or workplaces.
In a statement, the island's chief medical health officer Dr. Richard Stanwick said "This legislation will protect the health of children and youth from the well-established harmful effects of nicotine as well as the toxic by-products of vaping."
The legislation is expected to be introduced this spring.
