A Calgary homeowner turned an unexpected visit by a bobcat family into a wildlife photography opportunity of a lifetime. Sandstone resident Janice Anderson said on Aug. 27, she got a heads-up from her neighbour that a mama bobcat and her five babies were heading her way. “So I grabbed my camera and phone and ran outside,” Anderson said, who added that she left her dog in the house. In her backyard, she discovered a bunch of bobcats, chilling. “The bobcats were very calm!” Anderson said, in an email to CTV News. “They jumped up on my gardening beds and sat down for a few seconds and then made their way to around the front. I couldn’t believe it when the mom lied down on the front lawn.” The bobcats didn’t hang around -- they left after a minute or so -- but they stayed long enough to pose for some photos. It turns out Anderson is an aspiring wildlife photographer. “I bought a camera just a few years ago as a new hobby,” she said. “I had to ask a friend how to even use the camera and I had a lot to learn. “Over the years wildlife photography has turned into something I truly love and definitely a passion. “Taking pictures of animals brings me peace,” she added. “To me it’s about slowing down and paying attention and noticing what’s out there. “I’m on the backroads in most of my spare time trying to find wildlife so this was a huge honour having them come right to my yard!”
