Calgary drug trafficking investigation seizes $88K in drugs, cash and guns

Calgary police charged two people and seized more than $88,000 worth of drugs and cash, along with firearms, following a three-month drug trafficking investigation. (CPS handout)

Two people are facing charges after more than $88,000 in drugs, cash and firearms was seized by Calgary police following a three-month trafficking investigation.

Police say the investigation began in June after a suspected drug trafficker was identified following two overdose deaths.

Police arrested the suspect on Aug. 31.

Officers then executed search warrants at a home in the 200 block of Autumn Green S.E. in Auburn Bay, and a second location in the 14400 block of Mount McKenzie Drive S.E. in McKenzie Lake.

During the execution of the warrants, officers seized:

• $46,640 in Canadian currency;
• $180 in American currency;
• One rifle and two shotguns, along with six magazines and 148 rounds of ammunition;
• 1,980 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $19,801;
• 569 grams of psilocybin with an estimated street value of $11,394;
• 207 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $4,154;
• 593 codeine pills with an estimated street value of $2,965;
• 127 Adderall pills with an estimated street value of $1,270;
• 49 tabs of LSD with an estimated street value of $490;
• Seven morphine pills with an estimated street value of $140;
• 6,200 contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of $1,543; and,
• Drug trafficking paraphernalia, including scales, packaging materials and a vacuum sealer.

Investigators also seized 11 kilograms of an unknown powder, which has been submitted for testing.

While preparing to execute the search warrant in Auburn Bay, police say officers saw a woman removing items from the home.

She too was arrested.

Ryan Allan Sinclair, 34, and Brigitte Conchita Peters-Palma, 34, are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

“This investigation removed a substantial quantity of illicit drugs from our community and disrupted drug trafficking activity,” said District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal.

“The seizure of firearms alongside these drugs highlights the serious public safety risks that can accompany the drug trade. We will continue working to remove dangerous substances from our streets and hold traffickers accountable.”
