A body found near the scene of a fatal whale-watching boat accident belongs to an Australian man missing since the vessel capsized, the BC Coroners Service has confirmed.
Raveshan Morgan Pillay, 27, was one of six people killed after the 20-metre-long Leviathan II capsized about 15 kilometres off the coast of Tofino, with 27 people on board.
The identities of the five others killed were confirmed shortly after the Oct. 25 incident.
Despite extensive searches, Pillay’s body wasn’t recovered until Wednesday when it was found on a beach at Vargas Island.
The coroners service said Pillay’s family has been notified of his death and is asking for privacy.
The victims of the fatal capsizing ranged in age from 18 to 76.
The Transportation Safety Board said many of the tourists aboard the boat were sightseeing on the port side of the top deck when a wave struck the vessel from the other side, flipping it over.
