Officials are asking residents to steer clear of a local beach after recent test results. The City of Owen says recent water sampling results from Kelso Beach showed “bacterial levels exceeding Ontario Ministry of Health standards.” As a result, Kelso Beach, located at Nawash Park, has been posted as unsafe for swimming. The city says it was informed of this by Grey Bruce Public Health. The unsafe for swimming posting will remain in effect until later water samples indicate bacteria levels have lowered to an “acceptable range,” the city says. Grey Bruce Public Health says it plans to test beach water again on Thursday. Test results will take 24 to 48 hours to update. The city says the splash pad at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park is not impacted by this advisory, as it only uses treated water. Similarly, the water used in the Kelso Beach washrooms and other potable water at the park is safe to use, according to the city.
