The Quebec election campaign is officially underway, with Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette visiting Lieutenant-Governor Manon Jeannotte Thursday morning to dissolve the legislature. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of election day: When The electoral campaign will run for 39 days. The Quebec election is set for Oct. 5. National Assembly numbers Across Quebec, there are 127 ridings, an increase of two compared to the 2022 election. A majority would require a party to secure 64 seats. These are the number of seats each party had at dissolution: Debates A French-language leaders’ debate is set to be broadcast live on Noovo Info and the Crave streaming platform on Sept. 16. Additionally, TVA Nouvelles is expected to host a debate on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m., and Radio-Canada is slated to host a leaders exchange on Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. and a French-language debate on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. There will be no English-language debate among the leaders of Quebec’s major political parties ahead of the election, with the CAQ and PQ declining to participate, and the PLQ stating it only would if all five parties were taking part. Québec Solidaire and the PCQ had accepted the offer. A consortium of English-language media had invited the leaders to a 90-minute debate on Sept. 24. Voting Make sure your name is on the list of electors here. If you are not registered or need to make any changes, you can do so here. On election day, polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The hours of operation will be on your yellow reminder card. You are entitled to four hours of time off work to vote. Advance polling usually takes place on the Sunday and Monday of the week preceding the election. The address, as well as the days and hours of operation, of where to vote, will be indicated on your notice of entry. To vote, you must have one of the following pieces of identification with you: Alternatively, you can also vote at the returning officer’s office during five additional days. There are also additional voting options, should you fall within one of these categories: Young Quebecers are also encouraged to vote, with small polling stations being set up for children between the ages of three and 12, but open to all young people under the age of 18.
