A pickup truck driver was nabbed for speeding almost 60 kilometres-per-hour over the speed limit by the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). An officer stopped a truck carrying an ATV travelling 138 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 60 in Algonquin Highlands Township, Saturday at 9:34 a.m. A 50-year-old resident Williamstown man was charged with stunt driving and excessive speed. His truck was impounded for two weeks and his license suspended for a month. Police wish to remind drivers that speeding significantly reduces a driver’s ability to react to changing road conditions, unexpected hazards, weather conditions, and other traffic on the roadway. Higher speeds also increase stopping distances and greatly increase the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision.
