Cheri Bojcic of Chilliwack is in Nuevo Vallarta, just west of Puerto Vallarta, with a party of five including her two daughters and her father.

She says her father has been told they're being evacuated to the parkade behind the hotel because of Hurricane Patricia and she's trying not to be scared.

Quinn Marshall of Abbotsford says he proposed to his fiancee on the way to the Grand Marshal Resort north of Puerto Vallarta and no matter what happens, it's going to be a trip to remember.

With maximum sustained winds near 325 kph, the Category-5 storm is the strongest ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere, and its ferocity has forecasters predicting disaster when it makes landfall later this afternoon.

The Embassy of Canada in Mexico has warned Canadian tourists to seek shelter or leave the affected area of Mexico by road, as soon as possible.
