Hundreds of people showed up at the New Waterford and District Community Centre in Cape Breton for a community meeting about drugs and crime in the area on Wednesday evening. Dozens of people took the microphone, voicing concerns to a group that included Cape Breton Regional Police Chief Stephen MacKinnon and Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke. People spoke about concerns for their safety and that of their neighbours, and witnessing drug activity on the streets. Others talked about addiction and what they feel are a lack of public supports and resources. Some voiced concerns about a lack of police resources in the community. District 11 Coun. Darren O’Quinn, who organized the meeting, said there will be another meeting by December. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
