South Simcoe police say a young cyclist in Bradford was ticketed for his behaviour while riding bike. On Friday, the boy was stopped by an officer who spotted him riding with a helmet on during Carrot Fest. Luckily, the young rider received what police call a “positive ticket.” Police say the ticket, which doubles up as a coupon for a free ‘Froster’ treat at a local Circle K, is handed out to youth as recognition for making safe decisions. In this case specifically, the boy was ticketed for choosing to wear a helmet. “While the free treat is a small gesture, the larger goal is to create positive interactions between police and young people,” South Simcoe Police said in a statement to CTV News. “These interactions give officers an opportunity to reinforce safety, set a positive example and build trust and confidence with youth,” the police service said. The tickets have been a staple with the police service for years and their design features contact information for Crime Stoppers on the back.
