A New Brunswick woman is dead after eluding police throughout southeast New Brunswick earlier this week. New Brunswick RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Hans Ouellette said members of the Sackville detachment responded to a report of a woman in mental distress driving an SUV on Highway 2 around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police located the vehicle near Aulac and tried to intercept it, but were not successful. “The vehicle did not stop, and no pursuit was initiated,” said Ouellette in an email. “RCMP Air Services were contacted and assisted with trying to locate the vehicle.” Members of the Codiac Regional and the Caledonia Region RCMP spotted the vehicle around 9:30 a.m. on Highway 2 near an exit for Moncton. Police again attempted to intercept the vehicle using a tire deflation device. “The tire deflation device was not effective in stopping the SUV, and the driver continued driving and not stopping for police,” said Ouellette. “No pursuit was initiated.” RCMP members later discovered the crashed SUV on Highway 2 near Salisbury. “It is believed the SUV collided with a guardrail and rolled over several times,” said Ouellette. A 28-year-old woman from Negotkuk (Tobique) First Nation died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Ouellette said a collision reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
