A small business in Sooke is celebrating a sweet success after it was selected to be a part of a massive Hollywood event.

Treats from ‘Fudge in a Round’ were featured in the celebrity swag bags at a pre-party for the Emmy Awards in L.A. last weekend.

According to the owners, a scout tried the fudge in Grand Forks this summer and asked if the company would like to take part in the exclusive event.

“To say that our fudge company from a small town of Sooke ended up in Hollywood is really amazing,” co-owner Kelly DeRocco told CTV News.

Fudge in a Round was started eight years ago, after the couple had fudge in Vancouver.

When they couldn’t find anything like it on Vancouver Island, Kelly’s husband Paul began creating his own.

“It’s down to an art, it’s a science,” Paul DeRocco said. “I know exactly what I need to do to make every piece uniform, to make it all taste great.”

The company started out with one flavour, chocolate coconut fudge, and has since expanded to more than a dozen flavours.

“I think what makes us stand out the most is our flavours,” Kelly said. “We have such unique flavours.”

Some of those flavours include Irish crème, maple smoked salted, toasted coconut and cheesecake.

“We wanted to make the impression that our fudge is different," Kelly said. “We’re not square, we’re round, we’re the modern fudge.”

Business is picking up since the Hollywood event, including an order from an actress who plans to order a big batch for her daughter’s graduation.

“Our fudge is so good it made it to Hollywood,” Kelly said.
