VANCOUVER - Health Canada is warning consumers of a product being injected as Botox, but was unauthorized for use.
It seized the product from Art Nails Ltd on Helmcken Street in Vancouver. The product was not properly labeled, as shown in the included images.
Health Canada says risks associated with using unauthorized versions of Botox could range from local paralysis, to death.
Health Canada says the salon's owner claims the product was Botox, but is cooperating with the agency and has agreed to no longer import the product. Health Canada is now working with border services to prevent any further importation.
All products given by injection have to be registered by Health Canada, and since this product contained no labeling, it's considered unauthorized.
Health Canada is now asking anyone who was administered injections from Art Nails to speak to your doctor, and report any adverse reactions on its website.
