A culvert failure led to a wash out that shut down a mid-Vancouver Island highway near Qualicum Beach.
Highway 19A was shut down just north of Cook Creek, south of Fanny Bay, after a culvert overflowed causing part of the roadway to collapse Sunday night.
Crews spent most of the day Monday working on repairing the damage.
The highway reopened to traffic just after 6 p.m. Monday.
The wash out came after a night of heavy rain that saw some parts of Vancouver Island, like Port Alberni, showered with up to 115 millimetres of the wet stuff.
Old Island Highway (19A) closed at Cook Creek for washed out road. My guess is this will be until well into tomorrow. Northbound lane looks ready to collapse. pic.twitter.com/PdZLibSDYb
