A woman was rushed to hospital in another near-drowning at Thetis Lake, just one week after an exchange student almost died at the popular swimming site.

It’s believed the woman may have been trying to jump from the Sunnyside Cliff when she lost her footing and struck her head on a rock.

She went unconscious and fell in the water, and witnesses pulled her to safety.

The woman was rushed to hospital with significant head and spinal injuries.

Last Tuesday, two international exchange students almost drowned while trying to swim from the same cliffs to an island in the middle of the lake.

While one of the boys was relatively unharmed, the other went into distress and came within seconds of going under the water permanently, fire officials said.

The incident triggered new calls to place lifeguards at Thetis Lake during the summer months from View Royal Mayor David Screech.
