Election season is underway in Manitoba as three municipalities elected new mayors and councils Friday. The Village of Dunnottar, the Town of Winnipeg Beach and the Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach all held elections Friday. In Dunnottar, Kathy Magnusson was elected mayor, earning 58.71 per cent of the vote. The rest of council will be made up by Brenda Walker – who received the most votes among council members – Jim Kotowich, Rosalyn Howard and Ed Strauman. In Winnipeg Beach, Terry Calof was elected mayor with 58 per cent of the vote, beating out two other candidates. Four people were also elected to council, with Christine Sokaluk, Andrea McCann, Linda Campbell and Kim Trombinski all securing seats. Lastly, in Victoria Beach, no one ran against incumbent mayor Penny McMorris, leaving her acclaimed to continue in the role. For council, Elizabeth Murray, Robert Monkman, Graham Randle and Ian Chadsey all received enough votes to secure seats. Winnipeggers will head to the polls on Oct. 28 to elect their next mayor and city council.
