Ottawa police and paramedics responded to four assaults in less than 24 hours on Thursday and Friday, including three incidents involving weapons. Police and paramedics say they responded three assault calls on Thursday, two of which involved a weapon. Emergency crews attended another assault with a weapon on Friday evening. At 8:48 p.m. on Thursday, police were dispatched to an assault call on King Edward Avenue near Murray Street. Police say a man suffered a “laceration to his forearm,” reportedly from falling. Ottawa paramedics say the man was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police say no arrests have been made and the incident is not under investigation. Later that evening, at 9:18 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a weapon call on Clarence Street near Cumberland Street. Police told CTV News Ottawa on Friday that the call was for “a woman who had been assaulted with an edged weapon.” The woman was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition, paramedics say. A 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, but no other information was released. Around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, emergency services were called to an assault with a weapon on Craig Henry Drive near Greenbank Road. Paramedics say they treated a man who was stabbed twice in the abdomen. Paramedics transported the man to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre in stable condition. Police say one arrest has been made, but the charges were not provided. On Friday at around 8:45 p.m., police were dispatched to an assault with a weapon at the intersection of George Street and Cumberland Street. Paramedics say they transported a man to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre after being dispatched to a fight in progress at that location. Police say the incident was not a stabbing and no arrests have been made. Investigations remain ongoing into Thursday’s incidents on Clarence Street and Craig Henry Drive, and Friday’s altercation. ByWard Market Three of the four assaults occurred in the ByWard Market and are the latest in a series of violent incidents in the area over the past two weeks. On Tuesday, Police and paramedics responded to a call for a woman who had been assaulted at the intersection of George and Cumberland streets. A 36-year-old Gatineau man was charged with assault causing bodily harm, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of conditions. On July 18, emergency crews found a man suffering from a laceration to his face near George and Cumberland streets, and on July 19, a man was treated for a serious head injury following an assault at the same intersection. On July 14 and July 15, police responded to separate stabbing incidents in the area. Police have said the incidents do not appear to be random. “In each case, the individuals involved appear to have either been known to one another or come together for a mutual purpose prior to the incident,” the Ottawa Police Service told CTV News earlier this week.
