An emergency demolition will take place following an early Thursday morning fire at an industrial building on Archibald Street that resulted in road closures and traffic disruptions. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the fire at 3:36 a.m. Smoke and flames were seen coming from the building, and fire crews used aerial ladders to battle the flames due to the intensity. A drone was used to help find hotspots. The city said in a social media post Thursday morning Archibald has been closed between Mission Street and Nairn Avenue due to the structure fire. The city noted, while no injuries have been reported, crews are expected to be on the scene all day. Drivers are being asked to use alternate routes and avoid the area. No injuries were reported. The property where the fire occurred includes several buildings that have been damaged by fire, with the most recent occurring in September 2025. WFPS said the building sustained severe smoke, fire and water damager, and an emergency demolition of the building will take place due to structural concerns and to help find hotspots. WFPS added roads in the area will be slippery once it reopens and drivers should use caution. City crews will apply sand and de-icing agents to the roads and sidewalks. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
