RCMP are asking people to avoid trails around Mt. Tzouhalem and Maple Bay as officers and specialized police resources conduct an ongoing search. In a statement to CTV News, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said there is “no shelter in place” and asked the public to stay clear of the area while officers carry oGoout the search. RCMP are asking anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment at 250-748-5522. The Municipality of North Cowichan said in a social media post that access to Mt. Tzouhalem, including parking areas and trails, has been closed because of a police incident. The Cowichan Valley School District also says it is aware of a large police presence in the Maple Bay neighbourhood. Maple Bay Elementary is continuing with its regular school day for now, according to the district. Families will be advised if the situation changes.
