After another May morning of snowfall in Winnipeg, brighter skies are on the way on Wednesday. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), drier air from an incoming ridge of high pressure from the west will reduce light snowfall today. Basically, it will turn off the tap. The ridge is already spreading sunshine in southwestern Manitoba on Wednesday afternoon. Throughout the day, the sky will brighten up over Winnipeg and the Red River Valley. Areas further into the southeast may have to wait until late Wednesday night for the sky to clear. Similarly, it will be another grey day in northwestern Ontario on Wednesday, with a moderate chance of showers or flurries. Despite the sunshine returning to southern Manitoba, temperatures will remain unseasonably cool Wednesday, with daytime highs stuck in the single digits. Meanwhile, ECCC said intermittent snow will fall over northern Manitoba over the next several days. That said, areas closer to the Saskatchewan border will see sunshine Wednesday as the ridge spreads into Manitoba. The rest of the north will likely see light snow. Thursday will be some relief to southern Manitobans, weary from the wintry weather so far this week. Sunshine and warmer temperatures in the double digits will return. Pleasant, sunny, double-digit weather will continue right through to Mother’s Day on Sunday before even warmer, seasonal temperatures in the upper teens return early next week.
