As we settle into the first few days of the summer season, persistent atmospheric instability continues over the Prairies and beyond. Much of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario will see a mix of sun and cloud, a chance of showers, and the risk of thunderstorms on Thursday. The chance of showers is higher in northern Manitoba, but they can’t be ruled out in the south. After a two-week stretch of below-normal temperatures, they will warm up across the south Thursday, with seasonal daytime highs in the mid-20s. Humidity is also rising, with humidex values that will feel like the upper 20s. Temperatures in the north will be just as warm, if not slightly higher Thursday. If you’re heading to Thursday evening’s Bomber game at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, conditions look good overall. But there will still be a risk of thunderstorms during the first quarter of the matchup. Similarly, there is a risk of thunderstorms this evening across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), instability will shift east Friday, triggering widespread showers and thundershowers in northern Manitoba, while yet another round of scattered showers and thundershowers will develop in the south. The weather agency said the threat of severe weather will increase late Friday into the weekend. ECCC warns that several days of severe thunderstorm threats will develop over the weekend into next week.
