Thursday is the last day of April and of unseasonably cool and windy weather – for now. Daytime highs in Winnipeg, Brandon and across the rest of southern Manitoba and in northwestern Ontario will remain stubbornly stuck in the single digits on Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will only reach 4 C to 9 C, a far cry from the mid-teens we should expect by the end of April. Daytime highs across northern Manitoba will be similar to the south on Thursday, if not slightly warmer, reaching between 5 C and 9 C. Churchill and Shamattawa are the colder outliers Thursday, with temperatures remaining slightly below freezing. Overnight lows Thursday into Friday will drop below the freezing mark across the province. Fog could develop overnight in the north, while the southwest corner could get clipped by flurries or rain showers around Melita. With the flip of the calendar page on Friday, though, warmer weather will return. Daytime highs will return to the double digits in the sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud across the south. Daytime highs in Brandon and the southwest will soar into the mid to upper teens, while Winnipeg and southeast will reach closer to 12 C. Still, that will be a welcomed warm-up for many. By the weekend, Winnipeg will catch up with highs in the upper teens on Saturday and Sunday in sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud.
