The University of Windsor community is mourning the loss of a student athlete. In a statement, the university says, “It is deeply saddened by the death of Nathan Guizzetti, a member of the Lancer football program.” The statement goes on to say, “Our thoughts are with Nathan’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this difficult time, and support resources are available to students and employees who may be affected.” UWindsor says out of respect for Nathan and his family, the university will not share additional details. Guizzetti, who was from Sault Ste. Marie wore number 22 for the Lancers this season and played in the season opener on August 29 against McMaster. He joined the Lancers in 2025 and returned kicks and punts for the team. His brother Cole Guizzetti, a member of the OHL’s Flint Firebirds posted on social media on Tuesday, saying, “Rest easy, Nathan.” “You were the best big brother anyone could ever ask for, and you never deserved what happened to you. I still can’t believe you’re gone, and my heart hurts knowing I have to live without you.” The post goes on to say, “I’ll forever cherish our memories, the laughs, and every moment we shared. I love you, and I’ll miss you more than words can say. Until we meet again, brother 22.” The Lancers football team also posted on its social media pages, saying, “Forever a Lancer; forever a part of the family. Everything we do is #ForYou22.” A GoFundMe has been set up for the Guizzetti family. The page says the GoFundMe was created to help ease the costs associated with funeral and memorial expenses. As of Wednesday morning, more than $50,000 has been donated.
